Vice President of Marketing
Our client, an international food and beverage company, was looking to hire a Vice President of Marketing to head up their Canadian operations. The ideal candidate would be an effective change manager, thought leader and innovator with superior consumer marketing skills and extensive experience in fast moving consumer goods. In addition to these credentials, the candidate should be able to work effectively in an international arena and be open to a number of future relocations after a two or three year term in Canada.
We first identified a number of qualified candidates in Canada. Although some were interested in the local opportunity, they were less inclined to relocate after a number of years. We then set out to identify qualified candidates located internationally who were willing to live and work in Canada for a few years before being relocated again.
We found a talented Canadian working in the United States who was prepared to return to Canada for the desired tenure then relocate in the future. The candidate had over 16 years of tier one fast moving consumer goods and global marketing experience. Furthermore, they were accomplished in talent development and leading teams through complex business challenges. With strategic, marketplace and management experience both domestically and globally, this individual was a great fit for the position and the client company. This outstanding hire contributed to the above average growth of the client company in Canada. After 2 years, they were promoted to a Head Office position in the United States. Five years later, they moved on to become President of the company’s Asia division.
Our challenge to Mandrake was to find the best candidate available. Bill took up the challenge by thinking in a strategic and creative way and seeking appropriate candidates in North America - not simply in the local Toronto area. As a result of his efforts, we hired an outstanding candidate who not only helped turn our business around in Canada but has been subsequently promoted to a more senior position in our North American parent organization. Without Bill's thinking and determination, we would never have achieved the success we have had. He is, and continues to be a critical partner in finding top flight talent and providing strong guidance on organizational issues.
