Director of Facility Management and Engineering
Our client, a unique tourist attraction in Toronto, was looking to hire a Director of Facility Management and Engineering. The ideal candidate would have strong engineering/ technical skills, excellent business management experience, along with solid senior management experience. The individual hired for this strategic position would become a member of the senior management team and oversee the work of various department managers. They would also have the challenging task of managing critical systems and operations while leading departmental change through training and development initiatives.
We conducted an extensive search, looking at two distinct populations of candidates to fill this role. First, we identified individuals that managed complex facilities including arts and entertainment properties, retail outfits, commercial centres and health care institutions. Second, since many organizations outsource their facilities management, we also considered consultants in the business as potential candidates for the role.
We found a talented candidate working in the health care industry who had 15 years of experience in engineering and facilities management. Furthermore, they also demonstrated exemplary management and technical skills. Having handled large and complex capital projects from end to end from an engineering and business perspective, this candidate was an excellent choice for our client. This outstanding hire, recognized as a vital member of the senior management team, has put the facility in a world-class standing.
