In summary, the role was a complex, multi-faceted one that involved working with Government, Tenders, Retail (branches), and Insurance.  Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President, Marketing and Business Development would be  responsible for all aspects of marketing within the company’s respiratory homecare organization, with a particular focus on Home Oxygen, Diagnostic and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and its treatment via Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP).  The VP, Marketing & Business Development also monitors sales efforts and efficiency in collaboration with the Regional Sales Directors and with Key Accounts (such as Insurance or Government bodies).

After a thorough information gathering session, we developed a Position Profile that  scoped out the role. Our target candidates needed to have very specific experience including working for companies marketing regulated products (or services) where government involvement is a  constant. Candidates would work for companies in medical products and services; national; and ideally branch driven, and known for their strength in marketing.  Candidates needed to have experience in being “accountable” for Sales, while not formally “owning” the sales function.  Finally, experience lobbying governments and institutions (advocacy marketing) would be a real asset.

The successful hire brought a track record of proven ability to shake up an organization and take it in a different direction.  One year in, the company has reached new levels of growth and the sales function is optimized.  The candidate was ideal for the role, having gained grounding in the disciplined Tier One CPG marketing environment, and then branching out in to marketing roles in health care organizations.
